Back in the 1870’s Surfers Paradise started life as a farming area then, over the years it became more and more a tourist attraction. Today it is considered to be the holiday capital of Australia.

It is the major hub of the Gold Coast, hosting national and international events, cultural and sporting events as well as being home to the largest nightclub district in Queensland and one of the largest in Australia.

Surfers Paradise is endowed with luxurious facilities catering to all tastes and pockets and boasts a beautiful beachfront and amenities recognised a being equal to anything in the world.

Situated north of Surfers Paradise, Main Beach was so named as it was the main surfing beach to the town of Southport. There are some interesting old beach pavilions going back to 1936 in good original preservation.

Now a very upmarket residential area with luxury high- rise apartments and featuring the sophisticated Tedder Avenue restaurant and shopping area.
Progressing a little further north one comes across the delightful Marina Mirage Shopping Centre, Versace Palazzo, Sheraton and Seaworld.
We will stop at Marina Mirage Shopping Centre for a 10 minutes photo stop break.

The Seaway is the main navigation entrance from the Pacific Ocean into the Gold Coast Broadwater and southern Moreton Bay. Located at the northern end of the Spit where the Nerang River enters the Pacific Ocean. The current Seaway Channel was constructed between 1984 and 1986 and is 250 metres wide, general depth of 11 metres and maximum depth of 20 metres. The area is a very popular spot for fishing, diving and just across the channel, for great surfing on South Stradbroke Island.  We will stop at the spit for a 10 minute photo stop break.

Southport is located near the midpoint of the Gold Coast and has one of the city's largest communities.  It is recognised as the CBD  of the Gold Coast and has the city's largest area of office space .

In the past, Southport was a major holiday beach attraction for Brisbane vacationers and the central entertainment location of the Gold Coast. In current times it is set apart from the normal tourist hub of the Gold Coast. However, it has still experienced tourist-driven development and extraordinary growth. Southport has 18 highrise towers, either completed, under construction or waiting commencement. Includes the recently built Southport pool complex which will host the 2018 Commonwealth Games swimming events.

This up market riverfront is located on the Nerang River to the west.  It was created by the pumping of sand from the riverbed similar to what happened with Sovereign Islands.  It has large blocks of land and high quality homes either riverfront or canal access.

Apart from the prestigious homes there are three classy residential towers: Grand Mariner, Nelson and Atlantis.

Labrador has been one of the Gold Coast’s mainstays since 1884 when Cobb and Co coach services brought beachgoers from Brisbane. .

Fast forward and visitors still flock here for the great range of accommodation from high rises to caravan parks to cafes and high-end restaurants. Sitting just north of Southport and just south of Biggera Waters, Labrador is popular for its calm waters, peaceful parks and views out to South Stradbroke Island.

Runaway Bay Shopping Centre is the main shopping area in the suburb while Harbour Town, located nearby, has a great shopping mall housing many outlets of major retailers - a great chance here for some bargain shopping.  Natural amenities include Pine Ridge Conservation Park and various parklands along the western shore of the Broadwater. The Runaway Bay Marina, along with the resident Yacht Squadron, is located just north of the suburb, in Hollywell. Like in many other Gold Coast suburbs, many homes in Runaway Bay are situated along man made canals  which are a mecca for yachties as there is direct entry to the Broadwater.

Sovereign Islands is a very affluent gated community within the suburb of Paradise Point.

Sovereign Islands are located toward the northern end of the Gold Coast. The prestigious island is made up of luxury homes with deep-water moorings and direct ocean access for the boating enthusiasts. Sovereign Islands is one of the most expensive areas in the country with some homes in excess of 20 million dollars The area is protected by South  Stradbroke Island, which lies off the coast.

Many owners are from overseas.

In the early days it was known for arrowroot growing  and general cropping and is positioned on the northern Gold Coast, a short distance from the Pacific Highway .Hope Island has a marina, shops, restaurants, theme parks, schools and three golf courses within close proximity. It is home to the upmarket Hope Island Resort and Sanctuary Cove. Community facilities include a harbour front- dining/shopping precinct, deep water mooring facilities and luxury housing.

Sanctuary Cove is a gated community in the suburb of Hope Island. It was the first of such developments in Australia. It covers an area of 474 hectares south of the Coomera River. To the east of Sanctuary Cove is Coomera Island.

Sanctuary Cove provides a completely self-contained residential environment with its own shopping centre and entertainment facilities, with the addition of many of the facilities of a holiday resort, such as boating marinas and golf courses. Sanctuary Cove continues to grow as remaining land is developed.

It is home to the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show  which has been held annually since 1988.  We will stop at Sanctuary Cove for 30 minutes of free time.
